The Not A Planet Tour!

A few days ago I broke news on my Twitter and Facebook that I’ll be joining the band Not A Planet on their Florida tour. We are both very excited to be joining forces on this tour!

Not A Planet is a great three-piece rock band from Kansas City who has one of the most high energy shows that I’ve ever seen. (And I’ve seen my fair share of rock shows!) I first saw them when they opened for 100 Monkeys on their Liquid Zoo tour back in August and half-way through their first song I was absolutely hooked.

I’ll be documenting the ins and outs of their daily tour and backstage life, as well as their amazing live shows with four cameras and more than likely tons of coffee.

Take a minute to check out their website, their music and, of course, the tour dates and see if they’re (err, we’re) coming to your area! Follow them on Twitter and like them on Facebook, too!

Not A Planet At The Riot Room

Not A Planet is a KC band that I discovered when they opened for 100 Monkeys on the Liquid Zoo tour back in August… they’re high energy. they’re talented as hell and above all, they definitely ROCK.

I was lucky enough to get to shoot them last night at the Riot Room here in Kansas City and while, unfortunately, the lighting was just merely three red wash lights and I wasn’t able to get many fantastic photos, I did have a great time and I feel that they put on a fantastic show.

Click their band name in the first sentence to listen to their music (I recommend “Please Don’t Go”) and consider downloading their EP or checking out their tour dates.

They’re going places. One place they should be going is into your iTunes.

Liquid Zoo Tour, Orlando – @JacksonRathbone

Jackson Rathbone from the Orlando House of Blues show… this show was very special to me. They had excellent lighting, the fans were so wonderful and incredibly nice and I was happy and very lucky for the events that transpired from this show.

…Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever… but if anything, I’ll be happy with the memories and the feeling that I felt at this show.

I hope that you enjoy this photo of Jackson. Leave your feedback in the comments section, if you would, please and I’ll think a good thought for you.

Thanks to everyone on Twitter and Facebook who played along with me today; it was fun!!

Ben Graupner – Spokane – 100 Monkeys

Spokane was a great show. I was the only one in the photo pit, the entire front row was full of wonderful, kind and happy people whom I enjoyed talking to, Johnson and I both wore Animal Muppet shirts (without discussing beforehand) and it was just an all around great show.

I particularly like this photo of Ben because his expression makes him look like a real life monkey and it seems to mimic his fan-given shirt.

Leave your replies of what you think of the photo in the comments section and tell me what photo you’d like to see next from the Liquid Zoo tour! Your wish may be granted.

Share this page with a friend who would like it and you’ll see a beautiful sunset tonight. (If you look hard enough.)

Painting For Sale – “Suburbs”

Yesterday I posted a skull painting that sold within 30 minutes of hitting the internet. That truly surprised me since the painting was outside of my comfort zone (I’m much more of an abstract/expressionism painter).

Today I have listed a 11×14 acrylic [abstract] that I have titled “Suburbs”. It’s finished in antique gold which makes it shimmer and be naturally shiny.

$20 + $10 S&H pay via PayPal. Email jodie.musicfirst@gmail.com with the subject title “painting” to inquire.

Also, be sure to check out the main page on my site to read about the canvas photo paintings! They’re a hit!

Sneak Peek Photo From A Van With A View

I couldn’t take it anymore… I had to share a photo from A Van With A View… This photo was taken in Ft. Lauderdale while I was out on the road for the 100 Monkeys tour this summer… it was my first time seeing the Atlantic ocean…

There are several photos from the beaches in Florida from this past summer in the A Van With A View book; the book goes on public sale on February 21, 2012 – click here to learn about the book, the pre-sale and how you can get a copy!

Also, if you haven’t heard about the canvas photo paintings yet, click here to learn how you can obtain a truly one-of-a-kind piece of art!

Comments are like recess to me… and every time you share this website with a friend a leaky faucet stops dripping.

Canvas Photo Paintings Update!

I cannot express how excited I am for these!

The day that I announced the canvas photo paintings I had a few inquiries and one official sale and I must say that I am beyond excited to get working on this first piece! I want the buyer to remain anonymous and I will not show off their final piece until well after they have it in their hands (if ever), but I do want to show you a bit of the process.

With this custom order you choose one of your favorite photographs that I have taken (from bridges & travel to SBL artists or 100 Monkeys – any of my photos) and I order the print on a high-quality canvas. The canvas is stretched to frame and will come ready to display in your home when you receive it. Once I receive it, I will interpret the photograph through acrylic paint, spray paint and perhaps a little glitter…

It won’t be for another week or so that I receive the canvas and start working on it myself, but I wanted to share with you the photograph the first customer has chosen to set the gates off to a running start.

It’s one of my favorites. Hell, it’s one of everyone’s favorites.

I think that this will be a lot of fun to paint over and I already have some ideas on coloring and textures. (Though it’ll be hard not to paint a mustache on Ben…)

All canvases will come numbered (though there’s not a specific number of them that I’m creating for the time being) and autographed. I will keep you up-to-date through frequent emails about the process from helping you choose your photo (special requests can be made!) to specially re-editing your photograph for the canvas and emailing it to you and letting you know when I have ordered it, when it will arrive with me and then, of course, when I ship.

There’s no way to tell how long each painting process will require. A painting tells you when you’re done, you don’t tell it… but I will keep you updated on the entire process.

To inquire or order your canvas photo painting email me at jodie.musicfirst@gmail.com

20×24 – $100
24×36 – $125

All orders require $20 S&H and payment via PayPal.

Also, click here to read about A Van With A View!! Pre-order happening now!

Send this post to a friend and the next Slurpee you drink won’t give you brain freeze.

Click & Pixels: A Community For The Everyday Photographer

Some of you (oh, lets say 122 of you) know about the online Facebook community that I started called “Click & Pixels“. For those of you who don’t know, let me enlighten you!

Click & Pixels is ran by myself and fellow photographer Serenity in hopes of encouraging people to get out there and shoot. One of my favorite photographers, Tyler Shields, says that “a camera is just an expensive paperweight unless you use it”.

This community is for photographers of all levels, whether you’re just out there with your iPhone and Instagram or Hipstamatic, to point and shoot cameras, entry level DSLRs, professional grade cameras… all the way up to the Hasselblad; we want you to join our community. We, and the photographers who currently reside there are very nice and welcoming.

Each week we post a challenge that you have one week to complete… you post your entries as you go and the one that gets the most attention, captures the essence of the challenge (this week is to take photos of “gross” stuff, how fun is that!!?), etc., gets to be our default photo for the next week.

In November we hosted an exhausting 30 day challenge where we posted a different challenge each day for you to complete. So many people had excellent entries and we were amazed at how many people participated! An eager 2 people completed all 30 challenges and then we asked those two photographers to challenge Serenity and I… Serenity has completed both of the challenges and I am just a little (several months) behind on this task.

This evening I completed one of them, which was to immortalize my favorite song in a photograph. This was particularly difficult for me (which is the entire point of the challenge!)… my favorite songs are “Australia” by the Shins and “Since I’ve Been Loving You” by Led Zeppelin. …Neither of those I could imagine appropriately depicting in a photograph, so eventually I went to my third favorite song… then my task was picking a third favorite song. I turned to my favorite band, Death Cab. Eventually after hours and hours and weeks of listening to them (oh, how painful) I settled on “Lack Of Color” off of Transatlantacism. (*Click on the titles of the songs in order to hear them… let me know what you think of them in the comments section!)

Here is my final result for the challenge photo:

Won’t you please come join us over at Click & Pixels? We’d love to have you there! Bring your camera… and a friend.

(Trivia: the combined number of plays in my iTunes between those three songs is just over 3,000.)

Painting, Canvas and… 100 Monkeys?

I am going to start painting again soon and with that I will be selling my paintings for an exceptionally reasonable price (I always felt that art should be affordable, but at the same time, what price do you put on a piece of your soul?).

I had an idea to have some of my photos (perhaps some of 100 Monkeys?) transferred to canvas and painting on the photo itself, thus creating a truly one of a kind piece of artwork. I am calling these “canvas photo paintings”. I don’t want to venture into it unless there is a market for it, therefore, I will be taking custom orders.

Please email me at Jodie.musicfirst@gmail.com if you’re interested or for a price quote for that or one of my paintings.

As soon as some paintings get finished I will post photos of them.

Thank you for the wonderful response I got to A Van With A View. I already have in mind what I would like to execute for my next book.

*EDIT* I’ve already gotten several responses about the canvas photo paintings, which is amazing! Thank you! I have researched it more and have decided that for a 20×24 canvas photo painting of your choice will be $100 + $20 S&H (ships worldwide!), or a 24×36 canvas photo painting for $125. If you’d like a smaller one, I can be persuaded to do so – just email me and we’ll work something out.
