Jackson Rathbone from the Orlando House of Blues show… this show was very special to me. They had excellent lighting, the fans were so wonderful and incredibly nice and I was happy and very lucky for the events that transpired from this show.

…Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever… but if anything, I’ll be happy with the memories and the feeling that I felt at this show.

Spokane was a great show. I was the only one in the photo pit, the entire front row was full of wonderful, kind and happy people whom I enjoyed talking to, Johnson and I both wore Animal Muppet shirts (without discussing beforehand) and it was just an all around great show.

I particularly like this photo of Ben because his expression makes him look like a real life monkey and it seems to mimic his fan-given shirt.

The day that I announced the canvas photo paintings I had a few inquiries and one official sale and I must say that I am beyond excited to get working on this first piece! I want the buyer to remain anonymous and I will not show off their final piece until well after they have it in their hands (if ever), but I do want to show you a bit of the process.

With this custom order you choose one of your favorite photographs that I have taken (from bridges & travel to SBL artists or 100 Monkeys – any of my photos) and I order the print on a high-quality canvas. The canvas is stretched to frame and will come ready to display in your home when you receive it. Once I receive it, I will interpret the photograph through acrylic paint, spray paint and perhaps a little glitter…

It won’t be for another week or so that I receive the canvas and start working on it myself, but I wanted to share with you the photograph the first customer has chosen to set the gates off to a running start.

It’s one of my favorites. Hell, it’s one of everyone’s favorites.

I think that this will be a lot of fun to paint over and I already have some ideas on coloring and textures. (Though it’ll be hard not to paint a mustache on Ben…)

All canvases will come numbered (though there’s not a specific number of them that I’m creating for the time being) and autographed. I will keep you up-to-date through frequent emails about the process from helping you choose your photo (special requests can be made!) to specially re-editing your photograph for the canvas and emailing it to you and letting you know when I have ordered it, when it will arrive with me and then, of course, when I ship.

There’s no way to tell how long each painting process will require. A painting tells you when you’re done, you don’t tell it… but I will keep you updated on the entire process.

Click & Pixels is ran by myself and fellow photographer Serenity in hopes of encouraging people to get out there and shoot. One of my favorite photographers, Tyler Shields, says that “a camera is just an expensive paperweight unless you use it”.

This community is for photographers of all levels, whether you’re just out there with your iPhone and Instagram or Hipstamatic, to point and shoot cameras, entry level DSLRs, professional grade cameras… all the way up to the Hasselblad; we want you to join our community. We, and the photographers who currently reside there are very nice and welcoming.

Each week we post a challenge that you have one week to complete… you post your entries as you go and the one that gets the most attention, captures the essence of the challenge (this week is to take photos of “gross” stuff, how fun is that!!?), etc., gets to be our default photo for the next week.

In November we hosted an exhausting 30 day challenge where we posted a different challenge each day for you to complete. So many people had excellent entries and we were amazed at how many people participated! An eager 2 people completed all 30 challenges and then we asked those two photographers to challenge Serenity and I… Serenity has completed both of the challenges and I am just a little (several months) behind on this task.

This evening I completed one of them, which was to immortalize my favorite song in a photograph. This was particularly difficult for me (which is the entire point of the challenge!)… my favorite songs are “Australia” by the Shins and “Since I’ve Been Loving You” by Led Zeppelin. …Neither of those I could imagine appropriately depicting in a photograph, so eventually I went to my third favorite song… then my task was picking a third favorite song. I turned to my favorite band, Death Cab. Eventually after hours and hours and weeks of listening to them (oh, how painful) I settled on “Lack Of Color” off of Transatlantacism. (Trivia: the combined number of plays in my iTunes between those three songs is just over 3,000.)

I had an idea to have some of my photos (perhaps some of 100 Monkeys?) transferred to canvas and painting on the photo itself, thus creating a truly one of a kind piece of artwork. I am calling these “canvas photo paintings”. I don’t want to venture into it unless there is a market for it, therefore, I will be taking custom orders.

I have researched it more and have decided that for a 20×24 canvas photo painting of your choice will be $100 + $20 S&H (ships worldwide!), or a 24×36 canvas photo painting for $125. If you’d like a smaller one, I can be persuaded to do so – just email me and we’ll work something out.

Now I have good new to bring to you; I finally have a release date for the next book!

I’ll be receiving my copy of the book from the printer very shortly and should all of that go well and pending any disasters with the book (upside down text or anything…) then the book will be out and released to you on February 21, 2012! I technically could have it out a week or two sooner, but I didn’t want to compete with the new Islands and Mechanical People record on Valentine’s Day. (Or compete with Valentine’s Day.)

The book itself will be a 6×9 40 page full-color paperback which will consist mainly of photographs never-before-seen taken across the country from coast to coast (literally). There’s a running commentary throughout the book and also two poems that I’ve never shared which I wrote this summer while on the road.

This book is a little piece of me. It’s almost like a diary and through these photos you can see a piece of me, a piece of my day-to-day life and into the eyes of a traveler. I recently re-read and re-edited the introduction to make sure it was up to par for print and it choked me up; I really put my heart into this book and I hope that you’ll like it as much as I do.

There are three options for ordering. I’m going to open direct order through Blurb, which is where I get all my books printed from. You’ll be able to order this book from their site (at a link which I will provide to you on February 21st) for the price of $16.95.

Option two is to order the book through me and pay via PayPal. Ordering through me you’ll get a personalized and autographed book, an 8×10 of a photo featured from the book and glitter (I kid you not). That price is $26.95 + S&H.

Option three is to pre-order the book before February 1st and you’ll receive the book in hand before the release date! Pre-order is only available through the PayPal option and while I can attempt to get the book in your hands before the release date, I cannot absolutely guarantee this for worldwide customers – though, I admittedly will try my hardest!
